CKAG Scrapbook - Walk Through History

Last year (2008) the Elizabethtown/Hardin County Heritage Council sponsored an opportunity for artists to paint “A Walk Through History”. The pieces of art were to be painted on 6’x4’ MDO board in acrylic and were to be mounted on nine concrete panels in front of the city hall parking lot. The following CKAG artists were selected to paint the panels and are described below. The completed panels were unveiled on May 9, 2009.

Ron Frye—The Settling of Severns Valley, 1776. Elizabeth Hynes, for whom Elizabethtown was named, was depicted in the panel

Carole J. Powell—The Lincoln Connection, 1812, shows young Abe Lincoln with his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln.

Carole J. Powell—The Civil War, 1860, Ben Hardin Helm, Confederate General and son of Kentucky Governor.

Rose Cooper—Post Civil War, 1870. General Armstrong Custer, Union occupation after the Civil War.

Wes Kendall—Education, Early 1900’s, John Pirtle, early teacher and administrator.

Wes Kendall—Industry, 1920-1940’s. Clifford Diecks , local businessman who started the Industrial Foundation of Hardin County.

Mary Lou Hall—Healthcare, 1955. Dr. George Bradley, the first chief of staff of Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Vennie Beeler—Civil Rights, 1960’s, Navy Seal Carl Brashear, first black deep sea diver in the U.S. Navy.

Vennie Beeler—Fort Knox. This panel shows men in a tank, Maj. Gen. Thomas Lynch, strong red and white stripes, and Col. Mauhee Edmonson of Ireland Army Hospital as an Army Nurse, emphasizing the strong link the entire area has to Fort Knox.
