The Artist of the Month (AoM) is a contest held at each regular meeting of the Guild for the enjoyment of the members.  Any member in good standing may enter a piece of their original art.  Every other month we select a theme and the art entered that month should conform to the theme.  The other months are referred to as "Open" and the artist chooses what to bring.  Every person present may cast one vote for the painting they feel is the best piece of art.  In order to select a painting, one should apply their knowledge of composition, color, value and other elements which constitute good art.  First, second and third place winners are announced.  If two paintings get the same number of votes they are both awarded that designation.  The 1st place winner is allowed to hang that painting for the next month.  A 1st place earns 5 points toward Artist of the Year.  Second gets 3 points and 3rd gets one point.  In August the points are totaled and the artist with the most is Artist of the Year.  That person gets a one-person show at a place and time to be selected.
