June 2010 LaVerne Arkenberg's Drawing Workshop

POC = Judy French

Lavern with groupDrawing Workshop-- June 26, 2010, LaVerne Arkenberg, instructor

The workshop was a Laverne with group 2success. The students who attended were: Debbye Hassell, Tommy Gardner, Carmen Hainer, Deloris Murphy, Karen Hart and Grace Worthem. It was a foundation drawing class. Many of the students had never studied the basics of drawing.

Most were very amazed of how to measure an object using your pencil for the purpose of getting the proportions correct. They also learned how to make a grid (to enlarge their reference and how to make their support the same SHAPE as their reference or vice versa). This is mandatory in drawing. They also reviewed the seven basic things that happen when light hits a solid object. Although everyone knew about shading and highlights, they used that and much more of their newly acquired knowledge to render a final sketch of objectsLaVerne's workshop 4 LaVern's workshop 3they had brought with them.

At the end of the class, there was a (good) critique. Everyone felt they had learned some new basics and were able to employ them in their final drawing. All in all everyone was tired but pleased with their day’s hard work and newly gained insight.
